De Montfort University offers 1 year Masters by Research (MA or MSc). These are postgraduate degrees and are available for Digital Building Heritage. The Master’s by Research offers you the opportunity to pursue an independent research project while benefitting from the support of expert supervision and to develop an understanding of research study, linking your research project directly to your current or future career interests, and obtain a taste of what PhD study might entail. The duration is 12-15 months full-time, 24-30 months part-time and attendance is negotiated with supervisors. Normally a minimum of a 2:1 or first class Honours degree (or equivalent) is required for entry. If English is not your first language, an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent is essential. Free English language tuition is available, delivered by our British Council-accredited Centre for English Language Learning (CELL) both before and during the course. You should contact the Digital Building Heritage Group to discuss a potential research project. Often we have live projects which can form the basis for your own studies or you may have your own project which you can bring for discussion. You should do this before making a formal application. For a formal application you will be required to prepare a research proposal, approximately three pages long that sets out your research aims context and intended methods. You will then be interviewed by two members of staff and, if successful in your application, be assigned two supervisors. For assessment at the end of your studies in your degree you will submit a research thesis (maximum of 30,000 words) and have a viva conducted by an internal and external examiner.
